Sacred Discomfort Course

You’ve been making your life smaller, one avoided feeling at a time.

Sacred Discomfort: The Full Practice
A self-paced audio course with Dr. Suzanne Meunier

You know the moment.

The invitation you almost said yes to. The thing you’d love to try, say, or share, and then the quiet math that follows. What if it goes badly? What if the feeling is too big?

So you pass. You tell yourself it’s just not who you are. You’re not a person who speaks up, performs, tries new things, or lets people see the real you.

Each “no” makes sense on its own. Added together, they make a life smaller than the one you want.

You’ve probably tried to fix it. You’ve told yourself to think positive. You’ve tried to reason your way out of the feeling. You may even understand exactly why you feel the way you do, and the feeling still shows up.

That isn’t a failure of effort. No one ever handed you a user manual for your brain.

I know this pattern because I lived it.

For years, I had so much anxiety that I started to believe it was who I was. An anxious person. I decided there were things I couldn’t do: public speaking, performing, sharing certain things in my relationships, even hobbies I might try. There were limits in almost every part of my life.

In seventh grade, I broke down in tears in the middle of a report and sat down, unable to finish.

Years later, as a psychology major, I faced a required group presentation. This time I made a different decision. I didn’t try to get rid of the fear. I decided it wasn’t worth more than the thing I wanted. I presented the research. My hands probably shook. It was fine.

In graduate school, I studied anxiety and learned that the only way out of emotional discomfort is through. So I started giving myself challenges. I began with karaoke with a friend, then karaoke alone. Eventually, I walked into a community theater audition. It was a 10 out of 10 on my fear scale. I was shaking, and I nearly walked out. I went to the bathroom to buy myself one more minute. Then I stayed, and I sang.

I wasn’t building confidence. I was building capacity: the capacity to feel what I felt and stay present anyway. And I learned I could hold my own big feelings. As I trusted myself with them, my life got bigger instead of smaller. I started making decisions based on what I wanted to experience, not on how I might feel if something didn’t work out.

What I learned

Your brain is not a neutral, accurate reporter of reality. It takes in everything your senses tell it, compares it to what’s happened before, and offers you a suggestion in real time. Sometimes that suggestion is useful. Sometimes it’s simply wrong.

That doesn’t mean you’re broken. It means you’re running the same operating system every human runs, and you were never taught how it works.

Sacred Discomfort is that user manual. It isn’t “think positive” and it isn’t “just let it go.” It’s a way to understand what your brain is doing, listen to what your emotions are telling you, and choose your response.

From my coaching clients

“I feel like I know myself better than ever, and I trust myself more than I ever have before. ... I trusted her to lean in and feel the hard feelings I had been avoiding and honestly did not know how to be with. I trusted her enough to step beyond my comfort zone and explore things that I have feared for much of my life.”

Who this is for

This course is for you if:

  • You’ve started to think of yourself as “just an anxious person” or “just not someone who does that.”

  • You understand your feelings well and still feel stuck inside them.

  • You’ve been saying no to things you actually want.

  • You want a way of working with your emotions that you can use in real life, not just think about.

What changes

By the end, you’ll be able to:

  • Notice when your brain is offering a suggestion rather than the truth.

  • Receive the message in a feeling without being run by it.

  • Soften your resistance when a wave of emotion comes.

  • Lean into discomfort on purpose, for something that matters to you.

  • Take back the parts of your life that have shrunk.

From my coaching clients

“I am finally seeing and living the goodness in life. I woke up the other day and thought to myself — I never even imagined this could be my life, that I could feel this way at any time I choose! When I think back to who I’ve been, none of this ever seemed possible. ... I cry tears of joy as I write this.”
- A.F.
